About our Bikes
Adult Bikes We have a small number of adult hybrid bikes with disc brakes for use on the Mawddach Trail. These bikes don't have mudguards or racks. If you need something suitable for heavy duty off-roading at Coed y Brenin the guys at Beics Brenin will have more suitable equipment. Sizes are extra-small, small, medium and large. £20 per day
Child's Bike We have a 6 speed Specialized 'HotRock' child's mountain bike available for rent. The bike has 20" wheels and has a minimum standover height (inside leg down to the floor) of 22" (56 cm). £20 per day
Pedal-assist battery powered e-Bike The 'Challenge your Boundaries' project, along with a Snowdonia National Park CAE grant, have helped provide for hire two pedal-assisted cycles. Pedal-assist means that when the bike senses that you are pedalling, it activates the motor to add power to your pedal stroke. Ideal for anyone with limited leg strength, the low step-over height and battery powered pedal-assist will give the rider a work-out and at the same time multiply their power output to bring a ride along the trail within scope. The manufacturers suggest a range of 50 miles on the lowest assist setting. Obviously the more work the battery does, the shorter this range will become. £30 per day
Tandem We have a tourer tandem for hire which is suitable for use on road and on the Mawddach Trail. The tandem, a Dawes duet is a 20"-front/16"-rear frame with a minimum standover height (inside leg down to the floor) of 25" on the rear. The rear position has been happily ridden by a 5' 11" rider, but will accommodate riders down to an estimated 5' 3". The front position has a minimum height estimated at 5'8" The bike is fitted with mud-guards front and back, pannier-racks on the rear and has been modified with higher rise bars to create a more upright riding position; less ergonomic perhaps, but a lot more sociable! £40 per day for the bike.
Single wheel Tag-along This Adams 'Trail-Bike' tag-along is ideal for small children who might not yet have the power to complete the journey under their own steam. An independent drive-train means they can pedal or not as the mood takes them. Keep an eye out for them starting to nod-off after a long day; it is a lot more common than you would expect. Trailers and tag-alongs may only be pre-booked along with an adult mountain bike. £20 per day
Single wheel Tag-along for 2 This Weehoo Igo tandem tag-along is a certainly a head-turner. With a suggested age range from 2-9, this ideal for the younger members of a group who might not yet have the power to complete the journey under their own steam. The front seat has pedals driving the rear wheel and this independent drive-train means they can pedal or not as the mood takes them. The back seat has foot rests. This trailer has a combined passenger and cargo weight limit of 36 kg (80 lbs, just over 5 1/2 stone) Trailers and tag-alongs may only be pre-booked along with an adult mountain bike. £40 per day
Double wheel Tag-along Our Brilliant Bicycles Add-1 two wheeled tag-along is great for bigger kids and small adults who lack the confidence or balance to be on a tandem or single-wheel tag-along. This 'Trike tag-along' offers great stability, and with an independent 7 speed transmission the rider can do as much or as little work as they choose. This trailer attaches to the seatpost of a standard bike and requires about 10 cm of exposed post to fit. Trailers and tag-alongs may only be pre-booked along with an adult mountain bike. £40 per day
Double wheeled Child trailer Our Adventure ST2 trailer will carry two small children or one larger one and some cargo to a max weight of 35 kg (79 lbs, just over 5 1/2 stone). Trailers and tag-alongs may only be pre-booked along with an adult mountain bike. £20 per day
We have a small fleet of bikes for rental which are sutable for use on the Mawddach Trail which is a short ride (about 700m) away.
Bikes are only available for riding from Coed Cae and may not be loaded onto or into a vehicle or trailer. You are welcome to park your car at our base for free, although you will need to cross the Penmaenpool toll bridge (30 pence for bikes) to access the trail.
Rental charges are per day, and we need our bikes back between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to get them ready for the next day. A charge of £10 per hour (or part-thereof) will be levied for the late return of bikes and trailers. Please ring us on 01341 430628 if you would like to arrange multi-day hire.
You will need to book in advance and provide photo I.D. to rent our equipment, and you will be liable for any loss or damge to equipment whilst in your care.
You can pay on this site via paypal, either using your own paypal account or a standard credit or debit card.
Please note that we will not hold reservations for bikes without payment. We can also take card payments over the phone on 01341 430628.
Pick-ups can be made between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. on the day of rental. We are not a shop, and the base may not be manned outside this period. Failure to collect equipment within this period will be deemed a cancellation, and no refund or rescheduling will be given.
Bikes may be returned between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. Bikes returned later than 5:00 p.m. will be charged for another day's rental. The base may not be manned outside these times, and bikes returned ahead of this period will remain your responsibility until they can be checked by our staff.
As the saying goes "There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes." On the west coast of Wales, it is not unusual for a bit of wind and rain to play a part in your day, so best you go out prepared with something wind-proof and/or waterproof. Gloves and clear riding glasses are also a worthwile addition to your outfit. It is also easy to get oil from the chain and dirt from the trail on your clothing, and snagging a trouser leg on the chain-ring is not unheard-of so don't head out in your best disco white suit unless you know a very good tailor and dry-cleaner.
There are picnic tables all along the Mawddach Trail, so if you fancy dining against one of the finest back-drops in Wales, then a packed lunch is a good idea. You can stock up in the shops of Barmouth or Dolgellau, or you can order a packed-lunch along with your bike.
There is much to see along the Mawddach Trail if you know what you are looking for. A great guidebook to the Trail will help you get the most from your trip, and is available as a PDF file or a booklet online at www.MawddachTrail.co.uk if you want to read-up before your trip. Equally you can order a booklet here to be available when you pick up your bike.
We will provide a helmet, bike lock, spare inner-tube, tyre levers, and a pump. We will set up the bike according to your size, run through the operation of the bike at hand-over, and make sure you are happy and ready for your day.
We strongly recommend riders wear gloves and glasses when riding. These will not be provided by us.
We do not provide a pick-up service.
The bikes are not covered by our insurance when out with you, and you will be liable for any loss or damage that occurs. Our advice is not to let your bike out of your sight. Bike locks are at best only a slight deterrent to a committed cycle-thief.

Please make sure that you are physically fit enough for the activity you are undertaking, and that you carry any relevant medication you may require along the way.
Cycling has the potential to cause serious injury to both rider and other members of the public. The Bike Rental outlet at Coed Cae will not be held responsible for any damage, loss or injury to the rider or a third party. We strongly encourage you to have travel insurance for your visit, and to ensure that your policy covers the rental of bikes.
For bookings cancelled seven days or more before the hire date we will give a full refund.
For cancellations less than seven days before your hire date we will not provide a refund or reschedule your bike booking.
